Oakland is a port city in the San Francisco Bay Area of California in the United States of America. Oakland does not have the concentration of tourist amenities present in neighbor city San Francisco directly across the bay to the west, or possess the suburban ethos of San Jose to the south, but the visitor to Oakland could easily spend a few pleasant days here with many things to see and do. Although often overshadowed by San Francisco, its beautiful and cosmopolitan neighbor lying directly to the west, Oakland has beautiful highlights of its own such as Lake Merritt, various theaters, and Jack London square, where you’ll find good places to dine, drink, shop, and listen to music. Nonetheless, from a lot of different spots you’ll get a good look at San Francisco across the bay. Oakland offers music, food, architecture, and a distinctive attitude and character.
